A Gripping Tale

Prepare to be gripped, and I don’t just mean by Jax’s tentacles as Tiffany Roberts transports us to a fantastic new planet and a unique romance in Treasure of the Abyss.

Prepare to be gripped, and I don’t just mean by Jax’s tentacles as Tiffany Roberts transports us to a fantastic new planet and a unique romance in Treasure of the Abyss. Human Macy fears the sea, though she once loved it. When deep in its depths she encounters the “alien” kraken Jax, an octopoid-humanoid creature. Her horror prompts irrational reactions and deadly actions. Jax the Wanderer is equal parts confused and compelled by Macy’s strangeness, and the evolution of this unusual couple is altogether sweet, shocking, and wonderful. Roberts’ prose demands that we turn pages like mad as both the dangers of the sea and Jax and Macy’s relationship threaten to rip them apart. The scenes beneath the waves add a haunting quality to the novel, while the ever-present threats hike the tension higher. But what about this odd couple’s coupling? As with the pair themselves, their similarities and growing love dispel any physiological disparities to bring a sweet and satisfying romance to this marvelous tale. A beautifully written story with a deeply gratifying conclusion. I look forward to again plumbing the depths in the next installment of Roberts’ Kraken series.
